Community Relations

Ciba Specialty Chemicals actively contributes towards local council activities, as we are intent on supporting the youth of today.

City of Whittlesea Festival

As part of our vision to “Shape the Future”, we are supportive of local activities in the areas of youth and science education. Ciba takes its social responsibility seriously and has supported the City of Whittlesea Festival since 2000, which is aimed at encouraging youth education and the arts.

State Library Sponsorship

Since 2001, Ciba has contributed to the State Library of Victoria annually. One of the sponsorship projects involves the conservation of books which are displayed in the Domed Galleries of the State Library. Ciba provides financial support to preserve these items which require pre-treatment prior to their display.

The correlation between the Library’s need to preserve and protect these treasures against, for example, the damaging effects of light, and Ciba’s business objectives is very strong. The materials used by the Library as part of the conservation process contain chemicals, and in some cases contain our Ciba effects.

Melbourne Zoo Sponsorship

Ciba has had a genuine interest in the development of zoos in both Victoria and New South Wales. We have been an active sponsor of the Royal Melbourne Zoo, particularly the development of its “Butterfly House”, which is a good fit for Ciba as our corporate logo has a butterfly symbol.

Ciba has sponsored the Taronga Zoo in Sydney in the past. This donation has helped to finalise the production of the REAR (Regional Animal Rearing) Database. Since 1998, the Bird Department has initiated a number of key strategies made possible with the financial assistance of Ciba. We receive continual acknowledgment at the Partners in Conversation gallery at the Zoo’s top entrance.

Ciba’s support is vital for our future eco-growth, conservation research and education of today’s youth.
